01 FROM PHILIPPINE FOLKLORE

Once, the heavens held seven moons.

In a well-known Filipino legend, Bathala placed seven luminous moons above the world. Far below, Bakunawa—a vast serpent of the sea—gazed up from the darkness and longed for their light.

One by one, the serpent swallowed six moons. When it seized the seventh, the people raised a thunder of drums, gongs, and clanging pots until Bakunawa released the last light back into the sky.

The old tale explains the eclipse. Our game imagines the world waiting below the waves.
